A greeting message from the Governor of fukushima prefecture

Message

Fukushima Prefecture is one of the leading prefectures in the field of producing medical devices in Japan.

Fukushima is proud of top-class production value in production of both medical devices by commissioning and parts for medical machinery in Japan. In addition, there are many production bases of major medical device manufacturers located in the prefecture.

Moreover, small and medium sized companies that sturdily support the production have been accumulated here, forming a domestic cluster in large scale.

The prefectural government formulated “Plan for Revitalization in Fukushima” to recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and positions “Agglomeration of medical device industry” as “Industry that leads a new age”, as stated in one of the twelve priority projects of the revitalization plan. We have been developing various projects under the project. Accordingly, the production value of medical devices in the prefecture has steadily grown year after year.

Currently, we are working on the development of medical devices by manufacturers inside and outside the prefecture, the support for expansion in the international and domestic market, and development of “Fukushima Medical Device Development Support Center”, the first base center in Japan which will comprehensively conduct safety assessment of medical devices. These efforts are being backed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). We will further promote measures for agglomeration of the industry.

Through these measures, we will build a prefecture of the medical industry agglomeration for international contribution and lead the industrial revitalization in the prefecture.

Lastly, I would like to ask you, a viewer of this website, to participate in the “Utsukushima Next Generation Medical Industry Cluster Project” to have more opportunities to exchange with Fukushima-based companies and universities.

June, 2013 Yuhei Sato Governor, Fukushima Prefecture
